FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Hoptown Half Marathon & 5K to Donate Proceeds to Dyslexia Association of the Pennyrile
Hopkinsville, KY - June 26, 2024 – Since its inception in 2019, the Hoptown Half Marathon & 5K, presented by Planters Bank and Jennie Stuart Health, has been dedicated to supporting local nonprofit organizations through its race proceeds. This year, the Dyslexia Association of the Pennyrile has been chosen as the 2024 Hoptown Half Marathon & 5K beneficiary.
The Hoptown Half Marathon & 5K, an annual road race hosted by Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation, takes participants through the vibrant streets of Downtown Hopkinsville, scenic routes in Christian County, and portions of the Greenway Rail Trail. Over the past six years, this event has attracted hundreds of runners and donated $63,000 to local nonprofits. This year’s race will be held on Saturday, October 19th, starting at 8 AM.
The Dyslexia Assocition of the Pennyrile was organized in 1970 by a group of parents, teachers, and other interested individuals seeking to provide barrier-free learning in the community for those with dyslexia and related learning differences. The association offers a variety of services including screening, tutoring, advocacy and other support services.
“The Dyslexia Assocation’s slogan of ‘Building Bridges to Reading’ really caught our eye as our department was searching for this year’s race beneficiary,” says Rachel Sanders, Marketing and Events Coordinator for Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation. “We are excited to partner with this group that has been impacting literacy in the Hopkinsville community for decades.”
The bridge motif will be a central theme for this year’s race and will be featured on the race medals and shirts that each participant receives. Registration for the Hoptown Half Marathon & 5K is now open at www.hoptownhalf.com. Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation is also seeking volunteers to assist with registration, water stations, and cheer teams.
